    H22 Type SH question

Hey guys, I don't know where this would go and it's somewhat related to CB7's with H22 swaps.

I'm going to be picking up a 99 Lude SH on Wed. I'd ask the guys in the Lude forums but I'm used to being here and I'm going to be here more anyways since the CB7 isn't going anywhere.

    My question is:
I heard that H2's are oil hogs and can burn up to 2-3 quarts between oil changes. They say this is normal. Do you guys know if that's true? Has anyone successfully swapped over an SH H22 in their CB7?

I don't know where the H22 gets that reputation. A healthy H22, driven normally, should not burn more than half a quart, MAYBE 1 quart.
It's not like a rotary that is designed to burn oil.

This would be better suited to the swaps section, since it deals with an engine that doesn't normally come in the CB7.

The SH is essentially the same as any other H22, aside from some minor relocation of components. The engine itself fits fine in a CB. The transmission, however, does not.

Also, please resize your signature image, or it will be removed.

My experience at home and at the shop is usually the owners foot and how heavy it is. At higher mileage, they do tend to use up more oil. But that is h22 in general. Not necessarily type SH. But, having oil being burned between oil changes is mostly because of the drivers feet. I would know. If the drivers foot isn't heavy, then it could either b worn out rings or bad valve seals.

mine tends to burn a quart every 1000-1500 or so. I really get on it though, I don't drive it as gingerly as I drove my F22

I thought 2-3 quarts would be alot too but almost everywhere I read about oil consumption in these cars, they say it's normal. Hmmm.

That's more than half of the total oil capacity. I've noticed some oil loss in my 15 year old H22, but never that much... and mine isn't in perfect shape, either. It even has a slight leak! I've never lost enough to necessitate adding any oil in a 3-5k interval.

I used to own a SH lude and I have an H22 as we speak, mine doesn't burn alot of oil at all (I am losing oil slow because I need to replace a gasket). But if you keep it maintained and don't drive the hell out of it you should be just fine!!!

Maybe the person that said that had some worn out parts. Like the others have said burning a lil oil is normal. I have that eng in my car from a 99 sh since 07.
