    Engine block condition....is it junk?

I'm really scared to put my newly done cyl. head on this engine block. It has chunks missing from the sleeves for the pistons it looks like. Would I have major issues having the HG trying to seal properly? Or do you guys think it would be okay to put it on there? 2 week ago the engine started up fine and I drove the car around for about 2 min or so just to get it on the tow dolly since it had a blown HG and no coolant. So I think compression was okay given it had a blown HG.

But take a look at the pics and tell me what you think:

^^I felt all of the impellers of the water pump and they felt really strong, contrary to what they currently look like, I think its just the sludge mixed in w/ it that's making it look that bad.

^^^I also replaced the water pipe w/ a good condition one from this donor engine I bought for 20 bucks to use the cyl. head off of. I was going to use the block from that engine too, but the pistons are seized in there, I couldn't move the crank pulley at all.

Tell me what you guys think.

that thing just might be toast....see when corosin starts it eats the metal.i would try to clean it.and see how it looks aka little chunks/divits in the walls on top were the gasket meets the block.take a pic and well tell u if its good or not.worst comes to worst get a junk yard block and rebuild.

well that was the coolant pipe going into the water pump, I swapped that for a perfectly intact one from this other F22A1 I bought.

The thing is, that engine's block is PERFECT, BUT the pistons don't move, is there a way to get them out? or should I really just find a JY block and put that in?

normally when a block seizes up.it gouges the cyclender walls thus making u have to bore out the motor till the walls are even.which also means more money.o and i ment the close up pic of the 1st piston srry.and yes get a j yard block and get new timing belts and u should be just fine.

oh and all that stuff inside the piston walls is from me trying to clean it w/ a flathead screw driver and blowing all the crap out. When I took the head off originally, the pistons were clean inside, no crud was inside the combustion part of it.

okay so how much do you think a JY block would be?

just to clarify though, this engine isn't seized, i can spin the crank all day and it started up w/ no stumbling 2 weeks ago. So you still think coolant would leak into there?

alright we are going to compare motors.this motor had almost 300,000 miles on it and this is what it looked like after taking the head off

ok see how the top of the cylenders are even and not wavey like urs.if u try to clean urs and put a head gasket on it its gonna leak im tellin ya now.
this is what it should look like after u clean it if it doesnt get a new block but i kno ur wasting ur time on this one

Was this car a under water sea guide before? Glad to see you went the option for a better one on a clean head. hope the transaction goes smooth.

GOT IT! Had to drive 84 miles in the minivan LOL but It made it back home into my garage. This block is immaculate! no corrosion, no deposits anywhere. I can even see the castings on the pistons. I made sure the crank turns over, pushed the pistons up and down and everything looks good! cylinder walls feel smooth as glass.
                              not bad for 60 bucks

                              Here's some pics:

I think some light cleaning and I'll be good to go. But now I've gotta remove the old block, separate it from the tranny, transfer the flywheel over to the new block, transfer all timing components, reassemble the tranny to the block, and connect the cylinder head to the block along w/ the intake manifold....I've got a big project ahead!
