    Clutch Slipping

    Hey guys,

Haven't posted in a while, but lately (past month or 2) when driving in higher gears ( 3rd sometimes, 4th and 5th ) the clutch will slip and the rpms will jump up to around 5500k and i get mild acceleration. Usually it will only happen if i really lay on the gas, but i can drive the car fine if i ease on the gas half way.

What i'm wondering is if my clutch is going out, or if it could be master or slave cylinders, or possibly a flywheel? And if there is any way to physically check without ripping the tranny out.

When i bought the car to begin with (40k miles ago) it had no noticeable problems with the clutch, just 2 bad axles i replaced about 6 months ago.

    Thanks in advance!

well first they only have 1 master cylinder, clutch master cylinder, and slave cylinder.. second how did you get a flywheel out of the blue? more like the wear and tear that was applied to the clutch disc and pressure plate is overdue and thats why its slipping.. its just a problem that will happen unless you baby your car for the WHOLE car's life.

i'd say baby the car untill you replace it.

so does the car actually jolt forward when it does this or can you only tell by the tach?

why would the car jolt foward if its slipping? it would seem like it was losing power. ive expereineced this in our old Bronco 2, when going up hills the engine would rev higher for no apparent reason.

this is because the clutch is slipping, id suggest (like the others) to baby it and replace it soon. remember, you need to get the flywheel resurafced as well.

your clutch is slipping. you will need to replace it soon.... i baught mine with a smoked clutch that started slipping real bad within 2 days... by the time i got the new clutch i had to take a running start in reverse up the hill in the backyard for it to climb it....and the hill isnt steep at all...........
