    5spd starters, F22 vs H22

Just curious, you know when you crank over an engine to start it and hear the starter spin the flywheel?

Mine doesn't make that smooth, fine sounding electronic engagement like any normal Honda engine would. It sorta sounds rough like a lot of friction is going on.

Are F22 starters different than H22 starters? dimension wise? I know they bolt up but are the number of teeth different? What about power wise for the starter motor?

The starter I'm using is out of an F22, and its bolted to my 5spd H22 engine/trans, just wondering if that's alright or you think I'd need an H22 specific starter. Just sounds kinda rough, idk how else to describe it

I would think they're the same, since you can use either an f22 or h22 flywheel on either motor. Perhaps I'm wrong??

I have been down this road quite a few times There is really no big diff between the F and the H starters (with the exception of the A6 on a H22 the bolt line up is a lil different) but other than there isn't much difference.

I just looked up starters for a 1995 Prelude VTEC and a 1992 Honda Accord. They share the same parts numbers for some of the models of starters. I expected that.

I used www.drivewire.com to search part numbers.

          They are universal.

Cool, thanks for that, I guess my starter is really high mileage about to go. I bought it off a JY car hoping it worked lol. Still works very well, just doesn't give that distinctive Honda starting engagement sound...you know what I'm talking about....

It took me several starters to get the right one and the "sound" you are talking about!!!

yeah i guess the only way to get a new starter is to buy a new starter lol. I'll probably do that once this one craps out.
