    main relay... good or bad?

    what are some things to look for if the main relay is bad? i just picked up one at the jy today and the it looks a little corroded and there is this brown sticky looking stuff on it... any help and/or advice would be appreciated.

      Open it up and visually inspect all the soldering, thats how they go bad, the motherboard expands and contracts with heat and cold, as a result sometimes the solder seperate. Look for hairline cracks in the solders.

        I'm not that knowledgeable about electronics but the brown sticky stuff sounds like the inside contents of a blown capacitor. Not good. I could be wrong though.

        Easiest way to see if it's good is to just install it.

          if you have a soldering iron handy, I would just go over all the solder connections and "refresh" them. Overtime, I'm sure you know, the solder joints crack and thats what causes that issue.

          Also another idea I found is to drill holes in the case of the relay, that'll help w/ cooling in the future. It gets hot sitting up inside the dash.
