    Alt. Belt to big.

So my alternator belt had broken. I went to Advance Auto picked up a new one. Got it home did what I had to do only to find out it was to big. I looked up part numbers on the web and went back to the store and double check part numbers. Everything is pointing to this belt I have as the right one. Anyone ever have this problem or and advice?

Does your car have a/c? and can you adjust the alternator to tighten the belt at all?

I got a belt from there also and it was too wide for the pulley (like you I double checked the numbers and had the right belt as supplied by Advance but it just wasn't the right size). I ended up getting Bando belts from "smallcarparts.com" which is local to my area. Let me know if you need the Bando number. I believe Bando was/is the OEM supplier.

do you still have the old belt? match up a new one to it and you'll be good. They shouldn't stretch that much.

I too had a issue with 2 belt's that Advance had sold me before on a 2000 civic. Both were the incorrect size. I checked there website and the guy sold me the incorrect belt and I told him the car had A/C. I would rather go to AutoZone. Also, Advance's website is a little odd.

autozone, advanced, napa they all suck, ive ordered numerous num matchin belts for a slew of diff cars, when u get tired of argueing with them have them measure the belt and give you one according to the length and belt pattern you need.
