car is smoking

my car is smoking and i know that there are alot of possibilitys but there is no bad sounding engine noise. and i used to have a BAD exhaust leak until i got a new exhaust system idk if that will have anything to do with it. but idk i just want some ideas and it is smoking out of the muffler and it doesnt do it unless like it floor it and go fast.

high mileage? possibly valve stem seals are worn and leaking, so oil is getting by causing the smoke

not really on startup kinda but on acceleration. and the smoke is like blue.

Do a compression test, if you got 2 low cylinders next to each other its probably the head gasket

Blue smoke is oil. Check compression and do a leakdown test. Could be rings or valve stems.

how do i do a compression test. and i opend the valve cover and it was all black under there. what does that mean does it have anythging to do with it??

that might be a head gasket issue, you can go to any auto parts store and ask them for a compression tester, it is a pressure gague attached to a hose which threads in your spark plug holes. theyre like $20 last time i checked, and well worth it.

if compression is high and even across all cylinders, suspect valve stems
if compression is low on one or two and is cured by oiling, suspect rings.
if compression is low on two neighboring cylinders and neither is cured by oil, suspect head gasket.

thanks man that last post helped alot. and i also wanted to share that whenever i put my hand behind my muffler and someone lightly pushes the gas lil black specs end up on my hand whenver i move my hand away from the muffler. what could that mean???

it smells more like rich gas.
