Balance shaft belt

Whats its purpose? Because I have a car that runs and drives without one. and it scares me that I have a belt missing lol.

all it does is spin the balancer shafts, some mebers don't run them I didn'T run one, you'll be fine

what does the balance shaft do ?
why did they put it there in the first place

you don't really need it, its for low RPM vibrations, you might feel a little more harshness but its not going to mess up your engine. Its also good for about 5whp since running w/o one you'll be saving the energy to turn those 2 shafts which weigh about 8lbs combined.
