brakes are killing me!

hey guys, as of late my brakes have been squishy to the point where im almost scared to drive my car. everytime i go to stop, they hit the floor. i do stop but i dont feel safe in tight situations. so far, ive had my pads replaced, brake lines checked, and just today i had my master cylinder replaced.

my brakes are now better, but they still feel a little pudgy and i cant find out why. they dont quite touch the floor, but they still feel saggy.

lol i wouldnt know how to tell if theres still air or not though. my mechanic has looked at it twice and has kept the car for 2 days. i dont think it could still be that

Bad brake booster? Maybe its leaking around the side of the diaphram?

are you sure none of your calipers or wheel cylinders are leaking? Sometimes if you pinch the caliper boot, it'll tear and cause some fluid to seep by.

as far as i know, the only thing leaking is my windshield washer fluid.

Don't get all pissy about me sayin this. But just because the master cylinder was replaced does not rule out that being the issue. I went through 3 masters on my last cb before I got one that worked correctly. Autozone is infamous for this shit...I know I used to work at one and people were returning defective parts left and right. Mine was having the same issue and I went over everything several times and finally I got a good master and the brakes worked great after. Just a thought...that and like the others said check the lines for air. Sometimes you gotta be real thorough. Hope this helps man good luck.

Yea master cylinders are bitchy, I've installed one fresh out of the box from Murrays (back in the day) still bad the next day, also dont get a refurb one, those suck for our cars.

well for saggy pedal ive heard one method that works is to drive on an empty street, speed up a little and slam on the brakes to get rid of any air in the lines. my brakes feel little like this too

I'm having similar issues, but not to the extent of the OP. While I can say slamming the brakes works, it is only a temporary solution.

thanks guys for all the replys. the master cylinder was bought from advanced auto parts and is the second one to be put in. what i assume to be the original one, was tweaked a while ago when this first started acting up. this mechanic found that the brake pads put on last time, were used, so he put on a fresh pair so i know that cant be the problem. id hate to think the cylinder is the problem (again!) and he spent 2 days with my car checking for air in the lines so i dont think its that either. for now, the brakes are steady but still not as grabby as they used to be, and it was no race car to begin with.

i'll try to do the speeding up and slamming but im afriad my tires are gonna take a shit on me lol. plus, i dont know how not having ABS is gonna affect that. thanks for all the input again guys, i appreciate it

make sure when you do it its in a empty long street so you dont hit anything or anyone hits you. could also be the pistons in the calipers...if anything try getting new calipers, they are about $30-$40 a piece

you ever check your drum brakes to see if there is still pad there, they play an important role in the braking system in that they are the first to be applied, then the fronts (but not at 100% power). So if the pedal goes low then you feel braking power the rear drums could just not have enough initial bite.
