    No speedo after tranny swap

ok recently i did a transmission swap from f22 to h23. everything works perfectly except my speedo stopped working. All the other guages work. so i swapped the vss that was on my f22 tranny onto the h23 tranny since that was my first guess of what the problem is. Still the same deal. Are these vss interchangeable because i put them in a side by side comparison and they appear to be the same and it bolted up no problem. Should I spend the extra 150 and get a new vss or could it be something else? any suggestions would be helpful thanks.

My friend had this problem once. It actually was the little gear that drives the VSS that was bad. I hate to be the bearer of bad news muh friend.

Or you have a short somewhere........

check your wiring......i wasted $100 on a new VSS and come to find out that the female plug on the harness had a wire that was being pulled out of the socket cause it was stretched too far. Used some needle nose pliers to push it back in and now my speedo works perfect......with the old VSS

That should be the problem but if that doesnt fix it then is most likely the gear. In order to test the gear you would need to drive forward a little bit with a friend kind of hanging over it with a flash light to see if that little pin is turning.

              what you can do...

Take the electrical part off of the VSS. keeping it plugged up, you will see a small shaft coming out of the bottom of that. DONT lose it. Once you see all that, get a drill and someone to sit in the driver seat. Take the drill and put it on the small shaft and tighten.

Now that you've made it this far without and complications, Spin the shaft with the drill. Make sure the person inside the car isnt messing around and going through your shit while they are supposed to have their eyes on the speedometer. They should see the speedo jumping around when you spin the shaft...

if its not jumping around then the top part of the VSS is bad.

very good my friend. I would have never thought of that. The engine should be running right?

before you do any work, put a glob of dielectric grease in between the connectors for the VSS. That made mine come back to life after I swapped trannies and it's been functioning perfectly since then.
