How Do I align my headlights?

So i have been searching online and I have no real definitive answer on this.

okay so I read you have to be about 25 feet away to adjust them, but see when I go find a wall tonight, how do I know exactly where they should shine?

If anyone could tell me or explain this better for my squishy brain that would be awesome!

Go to your local DMV. They should have markings on the ground and wall.

i have none of this.

and the DMV doesnt have anything like that.


How else can I do this myself!?

i need it done tonight, it's almost dark out so i can see what im doing

Find a white wall and a flat surface, park 25 feet away from wall, measure the height from the floor to the center of your headlight where the bulb is, take 2 inches off then go to the white wall and put a mark with masking tape and that's where the center of your lights should hit.
For example if the distance from floor to center of headlight is 24 inches minus 2 is 22 inches.

right now my lights are aimed to the LEFT and up way high.
