    revving.. 1k-6k?? (headgasket install)

so i took everything apart.. installed the new headgasket.. enjoyed the puddle of coolant in cylinder #2 and the loose head bolt near it.. put everything back together... started it.. and it revs like a madman from 1k-6k... rechecked my timing.. TWICE.. sprayed carb cleaner all over to check for vacumn leaks.. went a step further as to removing everything (awaiting a new I/M gasket.. to redo everything.. im gonna use a dremel to get every last bit of old gasket then put it all back together.. i wrote down where each vac hose went to.. put all the plugs where they go..

if it helps there is one plug connector i smashed on the head.. below the distributor.. but the plug still fits fine on it.. and it connects..

i dont think that would effect the idle.. its as if its bypassing the tb entirely..

    HELP please..

any coolant leaking??? cause it could just be like a bad IM gasket or somethin. Worse case scenario is the head is warped but i'd expect coolant leaks if that was the case. Were there any gaskets u didn't replace...ok, rather what gaskets did u replace lol?

intake manifold-head.. intake manifold top-bottom.. exhaust manifold gasket thermostat O-ring valvecover gasket... and yes there was fluid leaking.. so if the head is warped it would rev like that? but it wasnt from the head because all cylinders were firing.. it was running fine.. might of been the thermostat O i put it on wrong or something.. any luck of it being the TPS??

p.s. i believe u know what i'm talking about in my pm

clear out ur pm box.. but um.. nah.. i didnt coat the headgasket.. im broke from trying to fix this car.. anyh00t.. it could very well be the tps right?? at first it was as if i had no throttle control.. and now all the throttle control it has.. is revving up...the only way i got it to stay down was removing that plug thats connected to the fuel injector plugs.. it will bounce between 1k and 1,500rpm.. i did that so that i could mess around and see what was up

*edit* throttle cable should not affect anything

yo man if its automatic check the vacume line that conects in the back of the intake system. and check the cold idle vavle. maybe that is all screwd up.

If you want to chage the TPS take a dremel with a diamond cutter and cut a slot in both rivets. then take it off with a flat head screwdriver. I also hadthe same problem. Take some brake clean and spray it around the bottom of the head and bottom of teh intake manifold, hope this helps.....

My intake manifold was leaking at teh gasket
Also to check the TPS take an ohm meter and with the engine off you should get between .03 and .05 reading if its not in this range TPS is bad

Wikked: I been told the TPS is a very sensitive piece and can be damaged easily. Since you smashed the one connector ....perhaps you did something similar to damage the TPS as well.

Anyhow, if the TPS is damaged, since you live in Florida, I recommend to talk to Jorge @ www.maxbore.com He lives in Sanford, FL 32773. He repairs TPS and can set it back to factory specs. He does boring work on throttle bodies as well. Ask him on repair price, not sure.

The throttle cable question you had will not affect the TPS, I readjusted mine to the proper tension they specify in the Helms manual and I had no issues when I started the car.
