the pulley might be bad??? wtf.... what pulley?

      the main things are:

      -get t-belt on pretty tight
-make sure balance shaft is aligned for TDC
      -set engine at TDC
      -oil pump for TDC
      -balance shaft belt tight
      -tensioners work properly

might as well do the waterpump while your at it

also i can do a write up for you... i just did mine last week... let me know i'll send it through email..

The step by step is in the Haynes Manual (just incase you didn't know)...Doing a timing belt isn't hard at all. But like said before...take your time and do it right.....

Yeah..I've done it many many many times. The main thing to look out for is making sure everything is lined up properly...

alright, here's what im workin with. The car runs. It makes a noise like a belts going out. When i stoped driving it, there was a consistant clinking noise. It doesnt make the noise anymore. Now there's just a wistle noise and the battarey wont charge. I dont think this is together because i let it sit for about a month or two. i only have a week to fix this car, then i loose the garage... please help.

Alright everyone! my car is running finaly.. i feel so bad because i let it sit for so long for such a stupid ass reason.. Apparently the power stearing fluid is makeing a whineing noise in the engine by the timing belt. thats why i really didnt want to drive it. SO i finaly just said screw it and drove it to a mechanics and he told me what was up.. and i need a major tunup but it runs! thanks for all your inputs.

glad to hear that it is running. Usually it ends up being the stupid and cheap stuff thats wrong. Thankfully!

But if you want to start doing more work on the car, invest in a Helms manual, they are usually around 60 bucks new, but watch ebay. I would also get a haynes(11 bucks) for the easy stuff, so you can find it quicker. BTW... dont waste your money on one of the "helms CD" scams on ebay.. they are worthless IMO.
