VTEC on the H22a should be set at about 4800 RPMs in order to kick in smoothly and get optimum power. Now, If you want the kick, you can set it at about 5200 RPMs. 5200 RPMs will definitely give you the kick, and you aren't getting optimum power, however, it really isn't much of a power loss. IMO it's not a significant loss at all, and the feel of the VTEC kick is fun, so I think it is worth it.
Your friend has a chipped ECU so his VTEC is probably set to kick in later than yours. This is why you get more of a kick out of his ECU. If you want to change it up, you could get a chip and tune the VTEC to kick in later. You could also get a VTEC controller, but they are really expensive and aren't really necessary unless you're wanting to change your VTEC kick in RPM frequently.
Also, you should NOT be using a P72. That is not a good idea at all. Get a P13, that's your best bet.Last edited by CB7 Sleeper; 12-03-2009, 11:13 PM.

If so, that's a very bad idea.
Run a P13, or get a modified ECU properly tuned for YOUR engine. Otherwise, you risk doing damage.FROM L.A. TO KILL TOWN BABY

Modified. Chipped. TUNED.
The P72 is a good ECU to use when it's properly modified and tuned. It's actually preferable to a P28 (for reasons that I currently forget... because the P28 did enough for me)
But in stock form NO other ECU should ever be used to run an H22. The ONLY stock ECU that should ever run an H22 is the P13.
