    h22a4 swap have some :help:

i just swapped my motor and for some reason the header on my car got cherry red. i dont know why they got that way. have had header on other cars ive owned and never that color. once the car was turned off they went back to the normal color. then smoke was coming out the back of the valve cover were the intake hose goes to. i would also like to find a diagram for the vacuum lines i have an h22a4 block and head and converted it over to an obd1 so i got intake manifold and throttle body off an h22a1 and would want a diagram on those hoses. also would 10-w40 make my oil light blink on and off? thanks for the help and advice ahead of time.

I'm not sure what the issue is, and I'm sure it's not goo to have the header turn red. But, you definitely should have taken some pics of it.

header gets extreme heat quickly if your timing is off.

Are you using a catalytic converter, and if so is it old. If the cat is starting to clog it can cause exhaust gasses to build up and heat up the header.

x2. Have you set the timing yet?
It could also be due to an old/clogged catalytic converter, as stated above.

ok thanks for all the help guys. i think that the oil is to thick. my buddy brought a 5 gallon jug wit 10-40 so thats wat i think is causing the problem. i have a high flow cat but is really old. i got the exhaust from my car from a good friend of mine and worked perfectly fine.

The oil is too thick? Are you serious?

I would think the timing belt is advanced a tooth or two or you have a severely clogged cat. converter. I would take the time to unbolt the cat and run an open down pipe. Let the engine get to temperature and see if the manifold turns red. If thats the case then it's a clogged cat. If not, start looking at the timing belt.

ok thanks. well the headers dont turn red anymore. im guessing that it got clogged for sitting for close to a month. but im getting my exhaust done on friday or saturday. and i want to know wat size piping to go with now. i already have a 2 1/4 cat back. i was told to do 2 1/2 and without a cat. just a pipe in between.

2 1/4 is good for the H22 motor, I have 2 1/4 on my H, but the 2 1/2 is better, as far as the cat converter. If your gonna run without one, be ready for your exhaust to be loud.
