I had a similar problem back then with my old cb7, My tach read the idle at about 700 but was really way off. It was actually well above 1000rpm. I used a timing gun to set the idle and that solved my issue. It was annoying because every time I would come to a stop the car would rev up and down.

yea but it wouldnt jump to 3k. i remember that, i miss the green cb7.

in order for it to jump to 3k, it would have to be something that would feed the engine, not exactly like a vacuum leakk or a bad sensor.

maybe like an injector staying on.

if it stumbles when u shut it off then check the timing or maybe running too hot according to the bible( the manual)

even after you shut off the car, if an injector is stuck open there is a pressure difference. fuel WILL keep leaking into the cylinder, same concept with an older car and carb.

While ignition timing that is off, will cause dieseling it wouldnt cause a rise in rpm's.

Maybe low coolant level. It will rev up and down constantly or if the system is not properly bled. Mine did it once from 1000-2500 until I filled it up.

you dont need to remove them because cleaning them externally wont do anything to an injector that has a damaged coil.

ohm test each of them and make sure they are the same. pull the spark plugs and make sure those are consistent as well.

i will do that today and let you know.
another question, how do i go about doing that test? do i pull the injectors or leave them in? do it while its running or off? never done this before lol

and the coolent level is full ive already bled it thinking that was the problem.

you pull the electrical connector off and with a multimeter, put the ends of the test lead on on the prongs. you're looking for consistency, but should be in the range of 1-3 ohms.

remmeber this is only a start, this still wont really tell us if an injector is sticking.
