    90 Accord - Idle problems/idle bouncing

I have a manual tranny 90 Accord EX with 214K miles on it. I have been having this problem with my idle off and on for about a year now. Basically, when I idle, the idle speed bounces between 900RPMs and 1600RPMs. This is very, very annoying. Sometimes it will do this for two weeks, stop, and then be fine for 2 months before it starts doing it again. The car drives fine otherwise.

I have been reading up on it and it seems to be a problem with either the fast idle valve (FIV) or the idle control valve (ICV). Now, do the experts in this forum think that this is the problem? If so, how hard is it to change these parts out on my own? What can I do to prevent myself from screwing up. I have some mechanical abilities, but I don't work on cars much.

    Thanks.
