F22ax people help look--> whats in the rubber stopper hole above "f22a4"

can anyone tell me whats in the rubber stopper hole above "f22a4". i pulled it off and looked inside to make out some kind of pully but with rusty metel belt.

i looked at my mom's f222a4 auto and the part was clean.

    wondering if this kills hp?

its on a 91 exr auto

The hole is there so you can view your engine's timing mark, when setting the timming.

Belt? What you are seeing is the side of your flywheel. No, being rusty has nothing to do with timing.

Autos have flywheels? But it shouldnt be rusted inside the tranny housing...

You are seeing the side of the torque converter and flex plate (automatic flywheel). The thin brass colored plate on the side closest to the engine is the flex plate. The rusty part is the torque converter housing. They must use carbon steel or some other rustable alloy on the torque converter housing, because that is perfectly normal. But yes, that plug is there so that you can see the timing marks on the flexplate. White is TDC on the compression stroke and pink is TDC on the exhaust stroke.

acutally autos do have a flywheel... sorta. it looks exactly like a manual tranny flywheel but with big holes in it.

a torque converter is pretty much like a clutch for auto. if u ever seen an engine that had a auto tranny taken out u can see a flywheel looking thing with a bunch of circles cut out of them. im not saying it is a flywheel but it is ALMOST the same thing. on manual cars the flywheel is connected to the engine crank... same thing w/ the auto "flywheel".

It is slightly similar to a flywheel in that it connects the engine to the tranny. But it is much thinner and lighter, usually less than 1/4" thick. It also does not have nearly as much mass as a flywheel, because one of the flywheels main jobs is to use inertia to help maintain crank speed, making clutch engagement smoother and easier.
