    Vibration

    1991 Honda Accord SE F22A6

    New Starter
    New Water Pump
    New Distributor
    New Tires
    New Shocks
    New Springs

I just can't figure it out, the car when idle has a vibration, it shakes, it's slightly noticable but in reverse the car shakes like crazy. Is this normal CB7 operation do to it's old nature. It's a 13 yr. old car but I've swapped out most of the parts that were causing problems. On the highway it runs soo smoooth, but when in the city waiting at lights you feel the car vibrating......

    Any Ideas.......

Engine sounds good, I change the oil every 2,000 miles which is rediculous cause it should be every 3,000 - I check the Trans fluid and the Engine oil every other day. I take care of this car - I just want it to run without that vibration...

check all your motor mounts??? its hard to see, but if u have a flashlight and a pry bar see if u can move the engine alot with it while its not running. while trying to move the motor just check the mounts. the rear one especially cause its an automatic and i know theyres somehting weird about those mounts. take it easy, and happy turkey day!!!

The boot on the mount might possibly be cracked, allowing the motor to swing more than it's supposed to. First, obvoiusly make sure that it's tight. If the boot looks worn or cracked badly, it might be time for a new one. Also, make sure the timing is all good, and double check all mounts. I had bad vibration issues on my H22, and it turned out being the balance shaft belt. It was off a couple teeth. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Have a good thanksgiving.

Hey it might be a cracked exhuast valve becuz my 91 ex-r coupe was vibrating like crazy when it idled so we did a compression check and one was really down then we put air into it and i forgot which one it was but one was not holding the air it went out the exhaust so its gotta be a cracked valve or something if it idles ruff vibrates check it out it could be

My vote goes to the motor mounts, particularly the rear one.

I have the same problem in my '93 SE. I have a vibration at idle and my steering wheel shakes pretty good on the interstate. I will be installing new tires, brakes and hopefully engine mounts within the month. I will report back on any progress trying to decrease the amount of vibration.

try checking the motor mount torsional brace right by the rad in front of the dang header. Mine was cracked all the way through, nothing a new motor mount insert wouldnt fix.

                      Same here...

Same Here Guys. I have a 93 CB7 Automatic. I changed out my front and rear mounts and still got the shaking. I'm not sure if its beacuse of the rear motor mount not being an dual phase fluid chamber with the Vacuum. Since the Automatic transaxle models are equipped with dual phase, electronically controlled rear engine mounts. These engine mounts smoth out any low frequency vibration created under high loads or low engine speed such as idling in gear. Does any one know for sure if this might be the problem? Well for me that is?

Yes, like everyone is saying, use a flashlight and take a good close look at all four motor mounts for cracks. Usually, the front mount is first to go, followed by the rear. Just because the rear mount isn't cracked doesn't mean its good though. If all mounts look good you can try "setting" them. To do this loosen the bolt on all four mounts, just break them loose and back them out about 1 turn. Next, start the car and shift from P to D to R, do this five or six times then shut the car off and tighten all the bolts. You may have to repeat this until the vibration is gone. If the vibration still persists then the rear mount is probably bad. There are other possible causes as well, a dirty IAC valve can cause a rough idle too. The only other possibility I can think of is if the countershafts are out-of-time, However there is really no way to check without pulling off the timing covers.
