just got the tranny today, it seems ok

hey guys as some may no i was going to pick up a f22a1 tranny with 100K on it for 70 bucks, and i did, the man dropped itoff at my house and everything!

it seems decnt, dirty, but thats cause its been sitting for sometime, i got the old axle parts out, and the old mount off, and everything looks decent,

how can i test if it will be decnt, is there a check list or something

    thanks!

          yup!

i gave him 80 because i felt bad, but he was a great guy, i just hope tis thing works good, theres a little rod, that comees out if i push this spring thing open, which is kinds wierd, but ima keep my old tranny and all the stuff with that so that the shop that installs my new one, will have all the extrea parts to work with

so i was out driving tonight/racing some friends, and we did a 3 way drag, down a nice local area, and so this is what happens.

i would start in 1st get a huge good launch , redline at like 6200 or w.e and then try and shift, and GRINd!, then it would just mess me up, its so hard to shift from 1st to second while racing, and it almost feels like the cable was going to snap,

any ideas on whats going on ?

for one, make sure you have the clutch all the way in otherwise the pressur eplate isnt going to release.

if thats not the case, your 2nd gear synchro is going. i have the same problem upshifting to 2nd

mine doesn't even grind into second anymore now that my redline is above 7k. just goes in when it feels like it. 3rd grinds if i shift right into it.

i think it's a mixture of old syncros along with the idea that the tranny wasn't originally built to handle those conditions.

yah well, what do u think i should do?

i was woundeering if it might be bad linkage, i can feel something almost like streching linkage, or something, would a exedy clutch help this problem? my clutch is old and rusty, ansd acient lol

what kind of trans fluid do you have in there?

i'd also check the shift linkages. later.

your shift linkage may have gotten pinched causing it not to shift smoothly I would look into it.

the shift linkage is the thing you took off on the top of the trans. It's held on by the two cotter pins. Pull it off @ the transmission side and make sure its not binding and moves freely. It looks like this...
