    Oil Pan Gasket

I've known for about 8 years that I needed to replace my oil pan gasket; it's been leaking almost since I bought the car. The mechanic I used to go to told me it would cost several hundred dollars to replace the gasket. The Haynes seems to show that it's a pretty simple thing to do, once the engine center beam is removed.

Anyone guess how much a mechanic who's not ripping me off might charge?

Its still going to be alot of money since you have to remove the downpipe and the center frame.
    wat?

It calls for 1.8 hours of labor.... at my shop i charge $50 an hour. So if you brought your gasket, i would charge you 90$. Always get your own part if you take it to a shop. That will save you money cause a shop makes money off parts and labor. I just looked up that gasket on advance auto website. it said $17.99.

So i would sale that to you for about 27$. then the $90 labor would bring you to 117 plus tax and a 2 dollar supply and waste fee.

I did mine in my backyard by myself for the first time. All i had with me is my Haynes and a good afternoon and it wasnt too hard if you have an air gun. The Downpipe and crossmember is no problem to remove.

I messed up because i overtorqued it and its still leaking the same. I guess thats life huh? Trial and error.

i did my own for the first time... needless to say i had a hardtime getting the downpipe because of the akward position i was in... lolz... but other then that... it's a no brainer... heads up i had to loosen the flywheel cover plate to get that one bolt that's somewhat hidden. you will know what im talking bout when u get underneath there, unless yours is an auto.

                          I don't think

I do not remember for sure, but I think I removed my oil pan and reinstalled without removing the cross-member.

It was a tight fit but I really think I left it in when i did it.

Not to hard to remove and reinstall anyway though.

Its seriously not that difficult, the downpipe is the worst part. Definitely not a "hundreds of dollars" repair.
