Synthetic & oil seals (leaking)

assembly lube is overkill, it might lubricate the lip of the seal too much., you just want enough for installation. kinda like a dry pussy.

i kinda like the idea of using atf because it is thinner than regular oil. plus i always seem to have some around and never enough engine oil.

Thats why you don't put synthetic in a old engine.

do not blame leaks on synthetic on an engine with seals that are worn out or weren't replaced or was poorly installed on synthetic oil

I run only synthetic and have two leaks:
1. didn't replace dist. oring (soon to be fixed)
2. dinged my oil pan gasket on install (no biggy)

If you are leaking it is a result of a faulty oil seal and needs to be replaced.
Putting synthetic in an "old" engine is a perfectly fine idea as long as you replace the worn parts...it is NOT the synthetics fault your seals are shit. Such a tired argument.

Make sure your spark plug tube oring and upper seals were replaced as well.

All the other seals in the car are holding up except these. its an all weekend tackle for me! plug tubes are not leaking (so far) and the rest of them seem to be holding up nicely. If you looked at the topside of the motor, you wouldnt even notice it is leaking. Its all underneath now.

ATF on the seal before install eh? What if they are all Honda OEM seals? I think i recall someone saying dont lube those, because they come pre-lubed. Is this correct?

if it's all on the bottom then you've got oil pump and crank seals
[these typically should leak on the front of the engine]

OR
rear main, oil filter, oil pressure switch (a common leaker, drips onto the flex pipe)
[these typically leak onto the back of the engine]

lastly the oil pan gasket could have a leak...it would be mostly on the oil pan with a little above it...could be all around leak if it's the pan

Found out its the oil pump seal.
Damn thing is done really good, its leakin like a bitch now. I have put more oil in there, and hoping it lasts until friday. I cant do it until then after work, friday after work i have a spare vehicle to use, and i have my car on jackstands to fix my tranny cable, ball joint, and all those seals. Im just gonna re-do them all and be done with it. From the looks of it though, the oil pump is definitly the one leaking like hell.

Alright, so i have the rear oil pump/balancer off my car right now. Im seeing that there is infact shaftplay. I can move the shaft in and out pretty easily, Is this the issue, or is there something else wrong with it? What can i do to fix this? (When i pulled it off, the gasket appeared to be in tact.)

Is this shaft play normal when you pull off this unit?

after putting the gear back on there is still a bit of play in the after, i can pull and push on the gear (slightly) but enough to notice that there is play, is this normal?
