    Cruise control almost works

Electronically, it is fully functional. All of the buttons illuminate, I can attempt to set the speed on the steering wheel and it seems to respond properly (as far as the electronics do). It is disabled if I push the brake pedal, etc.

The problem is that the mechanical portion does not work; the car simply slows down if I release the gas pedal.

What are the possible culprits here? Is there some guide for troubleshooting this? I have been unable to find a good source of information on the cruise control system.

Try hitting the button over and over again, see if that gets you up to your speed. It works for me.

Follow the vacuum line from the tank to the intake manifold. You should find a check valve, take it off and make sure it rattles. Also look for leaks.

Check to make sure the rubber gasket around the cable into the cruise control is tight. If the the gasket is loose, then there's no vacuum, and therefore no maintenance of speed.

Locate 10mm or 12mm ,I forgot which size lol, socket. Attach extension and ratchet, remove three nuts surronding cruise control, clip or disconnect wire. Remove all unnecessary vacuum lines. Throw cruise control into parts pile in garage...oh wait thats how I fixed mine lol.

Mine was the exact same way...turns out the connector for the CC module in the engine bay was unplugged, but all in-car electronics worked.

does it ever work? or only when its cold? mine doesn't work when it's below 15 degrees... i attribute it to the rubber in the cc being too hard to function correctly...

It has never worked, and I live in NH (where it's cold!). Thanks to everybody who offered suggestions; I will look into all of this when I have time to do so.

I'm glad you brought this up.

Mine always worked fine until recently, now it goes back and forth sometimes (usually when cold). I'm not sure if it's mechanical or electrical. All my vac lines are new silicone.
I'll hit the button for cruise, the light will come on and go off immediately, or sometimes the light will stay on, but cruise won't take over, the speed just drops. I'll turn the ignition on and off, or let things warm up, and it will work fine. I did notice recently that I was in there and lost the square rubber seal that goes in the CC diaphragm's electrical connector. Maybe air and moisture are messing up the connection.

There is an electrical control box under the dash near the steering wheel, and I think there is a relay somewhere too. Could be any of those really.
