Air boost valve on a JDM H22A?

I found an H23 Plenum today and it has the Air boost valve on it. Would adding this valve on my H22A plenum help me any since both plenums are identical? I know my F22 had it but I don't exactly know what it does? just give more air? or help w/ idle?

Or should I just leave my H22A plenum as is w/ the block off plate on there? I don't think the JDM engines had Air boost valves...so I'm kinda unsure of what to do.

I would just leave it blocked off, and I'm pretty sure JDM engines do not have the air boost valve. I don't know what it does but someone has to know.

It just adds a puff of air at startup to assist in cold starts. It really is useless, many block them off because it can cause problems on modified engines.

yeah right now I've got a block off plate on there. I was hoping it would help my idle possibly? b/c when i'm driving its fine, but then when i'm at a light....it kinda dips down, shudders and then after like 3-4 sec smooths out.

No this valve has nothing to do with that, it will not help your idle. Sounds like you might have issues with your IACV.

yeah i can try cleaning that out w/ carb cleaner. Just curious what this thing does! lol. Or was there a reason why they put it in the USDM ones and not in the JDM ones? I've got emissions coming up in May 09' so would this help me pass easier? if so, that could be a good reason to put it on.

The guy above hit the nail on the head. It opens up when cold, giving more air during startup. It closes when the engine is warm.

so its kinda like a "smart" valve? But he mentioned its not good for modified engines....why is that?

The airboost valve will do nothing for you. It aids cold starting like has already been mentioned. Since the average Japanese climate is relatively temperate, they didn't need them there, whereas here, they had to be able to start in places like Detroit and Chicago, without making the owners worry.

They can cause problems with modified engines, because they essentially can cause a vacuum leak, and don't like big cams.

Also, your idle issue is probably something you will have to live with. Every P13 I have ever seen does that. Probably poor programming on the part of Honda.
