Tranny wont shift out of park

My tranny wont shift out of park. I have to put the key in the shifter slot to put it N to start. Once I start the car it runs great, but after I put it in park The shifter wont move. Anybody have a solution?

do you hear a click when you press the brake pedal? if not then its your shift lock that's not working right. I believe its connected to the pedal and runs to the shifter on the right side, its like this release mechanism that disengages this lock when in park.

well you just gotta remove your center console, its not hard, like 6 phillips head screws along the bottom of the trim, and then jack your E brake up as much as you can to make it easier and it'll come out...its hinged right in the middle w/ some screws from underneath as well so be careful of that.

And you should see it after you remove the center console. Directly to the right of the shifter assembly on the side...you'll see a latch and a wire, that activates the locking solenoid to turn on/off, see if that's bad.

change your tranny solenoids(shift lock). if you have a jdm h22 tcu then that may be your problem there. they tend to do that and the only way to bypass is by rewiring the green wires or putting it in neutral

                x1

it may also just be the tcu that went out

my tcm failed and did the same thing some time ago, i ran a relay to acitvate the inhibitor solenoid from the brake light output and hooked it up to switched power

beware if you remove it your car can be put in gear whenever, locked , off and parked.

Check and see if your brake lights are working,
If not working, replace brake switch on pedal, it operates the shifter lock.
If lights work, likely culprit would be shifter lock solenoid.
