    Extremely Rich / Misfire

    Hey guys.

So my lovely muffler fell off the car the other day (getting welded back on later this week) but tonight I had a really strange problem. I went to go out and play in all the snow... the car runs extremely rich and misfires... and almost sounds like I am hitting a rev-limiter or launch control with the backfiring. This is only on heavy (+ 50%) throttle.

It also only does this when my check engine light comes on. Now the check engine light has ALWAYS been on since I got the car... the Code was for EGR, and I don't give a damn. So after 5 minutes the light always comes on and then I ignore it. Now, after the light comes on, the car starts to mis-fire and run extremely rich.

Anyone know what could be causing the ECU to run the engine super-rich like that? I will get the codes tomorrow. Can I get the codes when the engine is still running or do I need to shut it off??

Pull the codes with the Key On and Engine Off- make sure you've got a good connection with the jumper wire. I hate EGR systems, I've had an engine misfire at idle from a bad egr and it took me over a week to figure out why an otherwise fine H22 swap wouldn't even idle. Fixed it with a 12 dollar block plate.

Find out if EGR's still your only code. Oxygen sensors start working after warming up too, that's why ours have four wires, there's a heater circuit in there helping it work sooner.

Need a Swap or some work done in the DC/MD/VA/WV area?
PM me and get it done right!

Well I took a look @ the ECU tonight when I was in the shop.

It's flashing Code 12 (ERG), Code 15 and Code 20. I am going to pull the backup fuse to see if those codes come back. I have a feeling it might have been from when the #2 Fuse popped out and I basically bypassed a whole bunch of shit to trick the car into working lol.

Also, it hasn't don't it as much as it did 2 nights ago. It only did it once pulling away from a light yesterday, and once tonight booting it on the highway.

I am going to change the cap and rotor in the distro and also change out the plugs, and hopefully that will clear up my problem.
