    removin valves and springs

    ok tonight when i get home i have to prep my head for p&p, i removed the rocker arm and cam but i have to remove the valves and springs, is there any special way this has to be done? thanks

    hey fizzbob can valvesprings and retainers be easy for the average gearhead like me to install cams and the valvetrain upgrade cause ill be damned to have someone install my shit and mess it up Ill just have them tune it.

        dropping a valve into the cylinder is always a sure route to good times...

        The special tool you're talking about is called a valve spring compressor... not exactly cheap though...


        oh and make sure not to lose the keepers when taking them off...and make sure they are on there securely when reinstalling...

        Personally I'd just pay a shop $20-25 to do it...


        edit:nevermind i reread and saw that you are pulling the valves also... so.. of course the head would have to be off the block...

              valves and springs are a peice of cake, as long as you have some patience.

              Also the best way i found to get them off is to use the kind of valve spring compressor that clamps onto a table, so you have some leverage. i'll try to find a picture of one so you know what i'm talking about.

              the "overhead" valve spring compressors that you have to push down on to get the retainer clips off is really useless because you can lose the retainer clips very easily
