    EGR Problem

Weather got cold here and started throwing a code 12 on my 91 cpe. Took off the egr valve, cleaned, checked diaphragm for leaks, reinstalled, and still throwing a 12. Wondering if anyone can shine some light on whats next-check the black box solenoid? or drill the ports and clean them.

On a side note when pulling up to a stoplight, etc. the idle has started dropping very low..somewherein the 400-600rpm range. Could this be related or is there something else going on here? Thanks guys!

Here is the situation I had. When I was going to clean my EGR valve and ports my young dumb and full of cum brain of mine was trying to figure out how to get the EGR valve off so I tried taking off that sensor so in my quest to figure out how to get the EGR off I snapped off the sensor and after that I threw a code 12 for about a year and now I put another one on and it goes away. I mean I snapped the sensor back on the way it came off but it threw that damn code. So your EGR is probably working but the sensor just went bad. Best thing to do to be safe is just replace the whole damn thing. They are expensive brand new but you can pocket one from the junk yard and call it a day. And make damn sure those EGR ports are good and clean because if im not mistaken they are making the new plugs a little different now and you cant really take them back out again.

Take a piece of metal, and get a new asket and cut out the pattern. Drill the 2 bolt holes and "plug" the EGR ports. It fools the ecu.

I'm going to just make a block off plate for the egr valve that sits under it but will allow me to block it off while keeping it plugged in so no cel. As for the ports themselves is there an easy way to clean those bastards? Could this be causing my low idle?

i assume you don't want to take off your intake manifold, so try buying some 'seafoam' at any large auto store. it'll restore you're idle, but you should check other things as well. tune up? sparkplugs, rotor, etc...

is the egr not closing? is it creating a vaccum leak? watch out for detonation if your going to block it off, the egr delete might decrease the drivabilty of the engine. try it without , any detonation? i would like to know how it works with the delete
