Has anybody ever had problems fitting a CF hood?

I bought a Fiber Images carbon fiber hood last night in really good condition for 200 bucks just to find out that it doesn't fit quite right. It looks like the latch part of the hood sits a little too far back and just won't click shut. I tried a couple different things but it will not latch all the way. Has anybody ever had this problem? if they did, what'd they do to fix it?

i hear you gotta adjust that latch for it to fit right, well the part on your car not the hood. you'll probably have to use washers to adjust it and all that jazz then look into hood pins to make sure it stays secure while cruising on the freeway.

yup you gotta shim out the latch on the radiator support..

yeah I had ISSUES with mine. I get scared everytime I leave the hood up for more than 10 min. that it won't latch...shimming the latch won't work. you have to push it further BACK, and when you shim it, it moves forward.

my problem is the latch wants to clamp down on the front part of the U on the hood so there has to be some way to move either the hood forward or the latch backward.

I still have this issue on my VIS hood which I got used and recleared. You just need to mess w/ the hinges, i had to move mine forward all the way. its a real PITA.

I ran into that problem too. I ended up taking out one of the springs in the latch assembly and now it latches just fine. It just doesn't pop when you pop the hood

I agree. You'll be sorry when it flips up on you and not only breaks the hood, but smashes the front window, and dents the roof. Hood pins are very functional.

There is a guy here in Omak that has a Vis carbon fiber hood, it fits like shit. It looks like it's pinched between the hinges and the hood latch. If you kneel down beside his car, you can see from one side to the other, thru the gap in the hood. I'd say, it sticks up about a half inch above the fender. Looks like shit. Granted, carbon fiber hoods are nice, but, for what you pay for 1, the fitment issue and the maintenance, I'd think twice about getting one

well mine fits pretty good, i was surprised.

As far as my hood flying up, i've done about 120 so far in it and it's been just fine...doesn't move aorund or anything. I think hood pins are tacky :/

They might be tacky, but sure are safe. I had to use pins on mine. I still have the latch as well.

my vis fits just fine. I also use hood pins. Can't trust the hood not flying up.

My hood was so light that it would aerodynamically buffet, which eventually led to cracks. I don't really like the pins either, but in this case I figured it was worth putting them in to lock it down. Now, smooth as silk.
