    Heat Shields

This question might be noobish, but im posting it anyways. Are the stock heat shields necissary when using an aftermarket exhaust? Ive got a high flow cat and straight through muffler and neither are very close to the stock heat shields. I have already removed the muffler heat shield but can i safely remove the cat heat shield without lighting my ass on fire, i know cats get HOT but mines got more clearance since its smaller than stock. Also the buzzing of 15 year old heat shields is driving me off the wall.

It shouldnt hurt anything. But like you said you're gonna be hotter than 2 whores in a wool sock.

Mine's been off for a month, no problems so far... the bolts were all rusted through and it rattled so much i just took the thing off to make the noise stop.

i wouldn't remove the one on the cat because i think it's really to protect it from rocks and crap from the road that is if it's the one welded onto the cat like mine is and it was installed facing downward towards the road.

or are you talking about the metal plating that runs through the exhaust path?
