Push button start killing my battery?

Car cranks slow but runs fine

I got the starter like 2 days ago

Replaced the battery - to engine ground and battery + to starter cables

    Whats the deal

Here's the circuit for my push button start setup

+ terminal on battery-------------------------- button--------------------- starter relay

I'll need an amp meter to check for current but I don't see how that would kill my battery

Battery came with car but has been decent up till this swap

I don't see how that would drain the battery. Maybe something else is and its just a coincidence.

So you basicaly cut the starter with in half and put the botton in line. Or did you use a relay. If you didnt run a relay then it would crank slow since the switch probably isnt rated for that amount of current.

            True true

But the OEM wire is like the same gauge thickness. I think I will pick up an official starter button (I am using a somewhat flimsy horn button now)... but I have to have the time to set it up nice

I don't think the starter current runs thru the little relay line though, that is like 70A thru a little 20 gauge wire

Whats the point of have a push start button if you have to turn your ignition all the way on and then push the button. Or am I missing something to this.

Shouldn't be straight power in the cabin anywhere. The wire that goes to the column is little because all it does it activate the starter solenoid.
                    wat?

If your battery really is losing power and its not because of the gauge of the wire, try this. Charge your battery so it has full power. Take the positive wire off the battery. Then take a test light and connect one end to the positive battery terminal, and one end to the positive wire. The light shoud not be lit. If the light is lit up, that means something is drawing from your battery with the car off. If the light is lite, start pulling one fuse at a time out of the under-hood fuse box and look at the light. when the light goes off, you know where the problem is.

It can't be the gauge of the wire, I know that for sure

That is a great idea though, I will do that tonight.

                          So just to clarify,

+ battery post -------------- test light ---------------- + battery terminal w/all the car cables hooked up to it

Should be off w/the car off

Makes sense, and is simple and cheap. Good stuff

Yup that should be it. You are basically just using the test light in between the battery post and battery wire like if you were to extended the battery wire
