    LX/DX conversion - power options

I have a 91 LX 4 door. Has anybody SUCCESSFULLY converted an LX/DX to full power lock/window/mirror? How about the EX/EXR climate control?

If so, which harnesses did you end up swapping? From what i gather, it seems like I have to swap 4 harnesses: floor, dash main, and all 4 door harnesses. I wanted to confirm with anyone if this is correct? i don't want to waste my time doing something that isn't required (or vice versa).

My biggest concern is the main harness since its the most difficult. The LX main harness is missing some wires on the connectors but i'm not sure what they're for. Any lessons learned would be greatly appreciated.

I started doing it, but lost interest. I had an alarm that had a power door lock feature on it, I figured, if I got power door lock actuators that it'd work, the alarm didn't put out enough voltage. Had the wiring for the power mirrors as well.

So, I'd suggest getting a 2 or 4 door universal power door lock kit, if you plan on doing it. You'll need some relays for the mirrors, a switch, and some power window actuators. All of which you can get on eBay

i got a 91 EXR as a donor car. so i have all parts for it already. what confuses me is the wiring for it. swapping the harnesses is alot of work. i'm just wondering if i need to swap the main harness or not.

Yeah, the LX has power windows, locks, and mirrors. The EX has power windows, locks, mirrors and a sunroof.

              What's wrong with the EX-r?

I guess most of you didnt figure out already that in CANADA the LX trim is our DX trim. There is no DX trim in canada.

                Our EX is their EX-R

the 91 ex-r just has way to much rust on it esp. along the windshield and sunroof... its completely rotted out and leaks water. body is too far gone but everything still works. my LX on the other hand, is solid and runs like a champ so it only made sense to do the power option conversion.

ahh. LX is confusing then. so what you're saying is:

                    Canada ------ USA

                    LX ----------- DX (BASE)
                    EX ----------- LX (MID)
                    EX-R --------- EX (TOP)

i guess the easiest thing to do would be swap everything out of the doors and mirrors over to the other car, then the harness would be the hard part. let me know if there is anything i can help with and i will look for ya, i have an ex so i have power everything.

the swap is basically complete and is pretty much fully functional. so if you plan to do this swap, you'll need a donor car for this. there's no way you can think of every part, screw, clip and wire harness. i did it cleanly without cutting a single wire. but had to strip the entire interior (carpet, dash and pedals too), and entire engine compartment for BOTH cars. not a fun swap unless you already plan to strip your car down to nothing. it took me 3 weeks working evenings and weekends.

ya man. all done except for rear doors but those will be done this week. both front doors work perfect, interior is back together and engine compartment is also done. just the deck is acting funny but it could just be the stock deck dying again. i'm pretty lucky considering how many things could have went wrong.
