Oh, don't worry too much about the stick being almost dry. The stick only measures about a quart or so there was still about 4 quarts of oil in the engine.
So when does your oil light come on? You cant really be sure that you have 4 quarts remaining tho.

I personally try to keep my oil level on the upper half between the two dots.
If you let it get below the bottom dot you risk engine damage.

*edit* if the oil light comes on it's very possible that the motor is starving for oil.

Well today I went with castrol gtx drive hard 10w30. Its label described all the syptoms of my engine and they didnt have the 10w40 available so hopefully this will work good. I noticed the castrol gtx was a dollar more than their syntec blend, I would think it would be the other way. But anyways 5 quarts is enough for the h22 right?

yes 5qts is enough for a H22. I would reccomend you fill it with 4qts first, wait a minute for the oil to goto the bottom of the pan and check the dipstick. if it needs more add more. normally H22s need about 5 qts.

10-30 or 5-30 is all you should be using (depending on climate.) using thicker motor oil is an old mechanics trick used for hiding leaks and shit. Using a heavier oil wil adversly affect the performance of your engine. If you have a leak then thicker oil is a cheap quick fix but it should not be permanant. The recommmended oil weight should be used for the life of your engine. Seals get old and need to be replaced thats just life but there should never be a need for switching from the OEM 's recommendation.

                Not really.

                Leaks. TRUE.

                Everything else. NOT TRUE.

Motors grow old through wear/abuse/ use. When the motor grows older, the clearances get bigger. You must adapt your oil to what your motor is telling you, not to what "the book" says.

And I don't know why the gtx is more. You must have got ripped or something. They should be under 2 bucks a quart, and the syntec blend is usually about 2.70 or 3.

Anyways, let us know how it works. BTW. Where the heck did you go that didn't carry 10 40?
                Noobie my ASS.

Oil light comes on when there's less then 8 psi of oil pressure. If that's happening you're so low on oil that the pump is pulling air along with the oil. The light itself basically tells you that you've fvcked up your motor:P Or, if its like mine it flashes at random times regardless of what the pressure is. I just said f it and installed a gauge.

EDIT: I've yet to have a problem finding toyo roki oil filters but I guess we'll see next time I go...

My H22A takes 6qts of engine oil with filter change.

Honda Filters are now all the smaller one. From what I understand Honda changed the design because in certain vehicles the larger filter was more difficult to install/remove.

Besides I like the smaller filter and don't really care who makes it aslong as it's to Honda's specs.

If you're clearances are so big that you need to change your oil viscosity then it's time for a rebuild. Today's engines (particularly Honda ones)are designed to run over 100,000 miles with out any major repairs. There is no sound reason to "adapt" your oil. Again this is an old mechanics trick.

not true. IF so, we would be building our motor EVERY 80 or 100 thousand miles.

Ask someone on here who has 277k miles or 300 miles and still running good, if they use 5-30 still.

                        I DOUBT IT.

Also, ask any REAL mechanic what oil to use in a honda motor with 100 or 140k. miles. Again, i DOUBT he'll say 5-30. Just 'cause clearances are a little larger, doesn't mean the motor is shot. Just mean it's been driven. Metal on metal moving at thousands of strokes per minute is bound to wear no matter what king of oil u use.

Not trying to be a dick or anything, but i strongly agree with that.

I had 255,00 on my old f22 and I used 5-30 syntec with NO PROBLEMS. And I'm not sure what you would consider a REAL mechanic but I know a little something about cars so I know what I'm talking about trust me.

                            Thats killometers buddy.

Talking 300k. MILES. Check the mileage forum above. Ask a couple of those guys what oil they use.

However, that is still pretty impressive.

For oil I'd run either Honda OE or Exxon Superflo 10w-30 which is recommended by the factory on the H22A for better fuel economey unless you live in cold climate in which case 5w-30 is necessary.
So you recommend the same for me Jose since I'm down in Florida now and not up in the cold shit? haha..

What type of filter do you ask for when you go to the dealership? Just one for the H22 or just a "honda oil filter"? I guess I'll use the Exxon 10w-30 since thats what you use w/ yours and we're both in Florida.

                              gracias.
