    H22A oil question

    I recently reached 3500 miles on my jdm h22a and decided to check my oil dip stick to see how it was doin. OMG I basically didnt have any oil!The very tip was jus coverd, and shit Im a dumbass for not checkin earlier. So I plan on changing my oil my self and its usually the station's job but im gonna start doin it myself. So my question is I want to switch to Mobil 1 synthethic and basically do I jus do the normal oil change routine and what weight oil should I use since I am burning alot of it? Oh yea engine has about 40k on it.

    5W30 is the best for year round oil.
    Get a Purolator "Pure One" oil filter

    next do a search on oil, there were a ton of threads on this subject a couple weeks ago.

    *edit* just to add I personally use Pure One filters and 5w30 castrol syn blend. great combo

          hopefully my switch to synthetic will fix this slight rattling i have when i press the gas. What size am i looking for that pure one filter and where do i get it?

            you can grab the pure one's at pep boys and advanced auto. both stores should have a book out to tell you what size filter to use. but I believe the size they reccomend is "PL14459".

              PureOne filters are garbage, I've seen two engines die because of the filter element in the pure one came apart and blocked the flow of oil.

              For an oil filter use an OE Honda filter. They're 5 bucks for the dealer and manufactured by Fram to Honda's specifications.

              For oil I'd run either Honda OE or Exxon Superflo 10w-30 which is recommended by the factory on the H22A for better fuel economey unless you live in cold climate in which case 5w-30 is necessary.

                if you know how you might want to check out your cams too. a friend of mine had a set of ctr cams in their gsr. well his girl was using the car and one day decides to check the oil and it was very low... because of that, it flattened out the vtec lobes... very bad btw

                ever since that happened, i check my oil every time i get gas. although i dont have a problem buring oil.

                  Neither do i ,I always check my oil,water and little shit hear and there under the hood2-3 tiems a week even though i dont have to but its just I want to.

                    I've never heard of that happening. I was using toyo roki filters untill honda stoped using them. They now all use the smaller filter for all their engines. I believe it's made by honeywell (which I beileve is a branch off of fram).

                      first off. I can't believe anyone hasn't told you this.


                      IF YOU ARE BURNING OIL, DO NOT USE 5-30 oil!

                      First off, WHERE is your oil going? On the ground, or being burned up?

                      Either way, in my opinion, synthetic is NOT the best choice for you. I would start out with a castrol gtx 10w40 oil. Or if you REALLY want sythetic, get the syntec mix.


                      A motor that BURNS oil has larger clearances, and therefore requires thicker oil.

                        Good point slobluaccord.
                        I guess since my car burns less then half a qt every 3k miles is why I reccomended 5w30.

                          If you still want the toyo roki filter ask for a S2k filter. Still toyo roki and it fits right on there. I've been running those the past few times along with Mobile1 10w30.

                          Oh, don't worry too much about the stick being almost dry. The stick only measures about a quart or so there was still about 4 quarts of oil in the engine.

                            i also want to state that all h22's consume oil. its just the way it is. more than one honda dealer tech has told me this.

                              I did ask for a s2000 filter. They gave me that little filter instead. I'm not 100% sure but the guy behind the counter said that all hondas are now using that little filter instead of the toyo roki filter. That's why I went with a Pure One filter on the last oil change.
                              I've found that if the oil is halfway down between the two dots on the stick that's about 1/3 of a Qt.
