anything with a lifetime warrenty. like craftsman and snapon. those are the only 2 i know of. i put my tools through hell and im constantly breaking wratchets and sockets (cheap ones. i think ive gone through all my cheaper tools).

like 3 years ago my gf bought me a 117 (i think) piece craftsman set and im still using it to this day. youll aquire special tools as you become more skilled.

the thing with craftsman is, theyre expensive. you save by buying "sets". for examply if 1 socket is like $6.00, the kit that includes 7 sockets are like $18.

our cars take metric tools. the big sets come with standard and metrics. i dont ever use the standard tools so i leave them at home. my tool box that stays in my car is much lighter and has more room for more essential tools.

i dont buy tools unless i will need them. so you can get the smaller (like 20pc) craftsman sets that only contain metric.

you get what you pay for. im not reffering too the strength, but the fitment of the wratchet into them. compare a cheap ass socket too a high quality. youll notice the differences right away. ALSO even though its made by craftsman and snap-on, theyll still break. when one does, i get my replacement, but also get a forged one from autozone/advance. if you dont really work on cars, a cheap set will get you by. if youre really going too get into it....spend the money. youll save money in the long run.

if you are going to rebuild an engine you may need some precision tooling such as dial calipers, mic set (which is also good for mic'n rotors) and a dial bore guage.

I manage to break the plastic handle on one of them after a year of hard abuse but its still good. The bar itself never bent.

HF is a hit or miss on certain things if you dont know what you are getting.
What kind of impact sockets did you buy? When I was in high school I bought an electric impact gun and a set of deep impact sockets. The gun was alright for the price I paid, but the sockets pretty much all snapped because of how thin the metal is.

For a everyday at home mechanic craftsman tools are fine. Variety is good too when it comes to sockets and ratchets. Get short, medium, and deep sockets with different drive sizes. Tools that flex are always a plus for fitting into tight spaces.

Hmm Thats wierd, Never had a problem with them. I bought a set of shallow impact sockets. Included metric and SAE. I use the bigger sizes often and never had a problem.

The walls on the shallow ones are thick, And the walls on the deeps in my kit are pretty thick also. Maybe you got a different brand that they carry.

I got a set of Pittsburgh deep impact sockets all metric. Now I use craftsman impact sockets, best 60 bucks I've spent it works great with my ingersoll rand guns.
