    Liscensed Technician

Is anyone on here a certified Honda tech or whatever?
My stepdad thinks I'm gonna blow up my car if I put a CAI on it and he won't listen to anyone except a certified technician so I was just wondering if anyone on here was certified or anything and could just post something to let him know the car isn't going to explode.

Ummmm and you think your dad is going to believe the word of someone that posts something on a forum 100s maybe 1000s of miles away that could SAY they are a tech and not be one?

Dude take a ride to the dealership with your father or go to your family mechanic and have him ask away.

It wont blow up, but you'll run a high risk of your motor hydrolocking if you suck up water during a heavy rain fall...
Safest thing to do is get an AEM bypass valve.
You should be good after that.

Oh yeah I know all about hydrolocking, I'm either gonna get a bypass valve or just get a short ram intake. And yeah I'll probably just head over to Tao Auto (garage specializing in Honda/Acura) or the dealership tomorrow, I was just seeing if I could get somebody tonight

Or just get one of those two-piece CAI's, that looks like I could just take off the bottom piece and use it as a short ram. Oh and yes I know a short ram isn't a cold air by the way.

Just buy a bypass valve its 10x easier and only around 45 bucks. Its better than spending money on a new motor. I prefer the two piece intake over the single cold air. As already mentioned you will be fine. For crying out loud its a pipe and a filter. Practically the same as a stock intake just that the stock is plastic tubing with a box sealing the intake chamber.

haha this is new. cold air intake its like replacing you intake pipe with a aluminum one and throwing on a air filter that flows and filters better than stock. tell your dad the car will be just fine. me and my dad went through that stage, i showed him and he learned. now he cant wait till the car is back up and running with the turbo.

That's what I told him. (My stepdad's name is Arlan)
"Arlan, it's just an aluminum pipe instead of plastic with a higher flow filter than stock! How would that blow up my car!?"
"Well if an aluminum pipe is so much better than plastic and a cone filter is so much better than an airbox then why didn't it come stock?"

because dot doesnt allow that. no car manufature wants to be responsible for hydrolocking their motor. thats why there are things that dont come stock with the car. this is where the aftermarket industry stepped in and impoved the cars performance.

Actually Honda engineered it to not run one CAI or SRI for reasons...hydrolocking might have been one of them but I dont think it was the top of their list. A few that come to mind is Noise, Emissions, Cost of replacement, cost to them, and powerband. I talked to a Honda trainer from Ohio when he visited our school. He saw my car and was surprised to see an h22 in there, and we talked about the stock intake system since I want to put mine back to stock. He said putting it on the dyno with the stock airbox and that valve (forgot what its called) and there was a lil dip and jump in the power curve. I found that surprising. And yes he did own a 93 accord before he moved onto a c5 vette. Learn something new everyday.

Another thing Honda's are really good from the factory. Especially the top end models. The aftermarket can only do so much. Improvements can be seen slightly (talking about basic bolt ons [IHE] no FI) compared to a domestic v8 that is choked to hell from the factory. Also the engines are mass produced so QC isnt all that great for them which can be an issue (Look in the castings of the intake manifold as an example). You put a few bolt ons on there and clean up a few parts they will wake some of those motors up.
