Something in the engine area is making a whirring noise...is it the transmission?

I was just curious about a whirring noise I keep on hearing when i accelerate. I think its telling me that my transmission is about to go bye bye. Am I right? I really hope not....

no,may not be that, mine is like a clicking noise, could be heatshield, but could be tranny,my tranny is jerky in D4 and I can even have the bumpy feeling sometimes if I let off the foot when it's in 3rd shift I think, sucks.

              Thanks for the replys guys...

Well, I did take the car to my mechanic but he says that everything is fine, and that if the whirring noise gets louder then thats when I should get it fixed. I think hes implying that its an "expensive" fix. Im guessing that expensive fix is the transmission, and is about to have serious problems. Couple of my friends told me its most likely the transmission. sigh~ Also when i put it in reverse the gear change is kinda rough. I think im going to get it checked once more, and Ill probably just replace the engine with a h22 and a new transmission if it comes to that.

so,you mean the sound always exsists,no matter what gear, what rpm, what speed? Do you feel jerky or something when it shifts?May not be that bad...... I took my car to my mechanics as well, they gave me the same answer as yous"no big deal my friend"..........

                    The whirring noise PT 2

So, exexexex youre saying that Its probably nothing too bad right? I only hear the sound at low speeds..once in a while at high speeds. I hope its nothing bad too because this cars gotta last me like another 5 years. Well, actually im planning to keep it forever. haha...I have too many good memories from family trips and stuff, and its the first car i ever modified. Seeing that I wont be able to afford a new accord for the next few years cause of insurance....ill have to make due with what i have. Its all good though. I love my wagon cause its somewhat original because not a lot of people have them.

Oh, and my transmission is automatic. The cars a hand-me-down from my parents. I have no clue what a slush box is either.

Anyways, thanks guys again for helping me out. I really appreciate it.

A "slush box" is simply another name for a automatic.

yeah, man,no problem.Update you one thing that I got my tranny fluid changed again today.Last change was 1 month ago,the only difference this time is I put in Honda ATF instead of some no name cheap ones used by my shop before.I can only say,bit better, but still, shift between 3 and 4 is still harsh The only way I do know is keep the car in D3,no problem whatsoever, maybe that's what I was meant to do? How do you feel the difference between D3 and D4? Try it and see if gonna be a bit better?
