    Is is the starter or the starter solenoid?

    Ok so my mom was out and then calls me up that the car wont start i check the battery and make sure everythings connected, i tap on the starter then the car turned on but what i want to kno for sure 1st is if it could be the starter or the starter solenoid are there anyways you can tell ? thanks

    Do this when you have a 1-2 hours (overkill).

    NOTE: Read if your existing starter is a Nippondenso or Matsuba (something like that) brand. Make sure you get the same one for a remanufactured unit.

    Remove your starter assembly (both solenoid and motor).

    Go to Autozone or Advance Auto Parts and take your old starter assembly there. Bring your old one as the "core" will make it cheaper on you for buying a remanufactured starter assembly (both solenoid & motor).

    Re-install the remanufactured one.


    I think it'll be about $80 after you return the core for this assembly, if I recall correctly.

    No one really buys new starters, they buy remans. Also, it's not worth just getting a solenoid and not the motor....just replace the whole assembly then you have no issues in future.
