    how can you tell if the timing belt is on its way without taking it off??????

    the reason i ask is that i bought the car with 12x.xxx (changed lmao) miles. i don't know if the guy before me changed the timing belt. i know the first owner took really good care of the car because i can find prof of it in the car lol(recites and all)

          Take of the upper timing belt cover, The one next to the valve cover and inspect the belt, It should not have any cracks or the belt should not be fraying at the ends. Check the teeth for wear, They should be round and no chipping.

          Thats the only way.

            Also before timing belt goes "rip" water pump could go bad.

              this method isnt always 100% accurate, sometimes the belt can look in decen shape and will still break on you

                Yea but thats the only thing you can visually do to check the life of it.

                    120K....

                    change the timing belt....balance shaft belt....waterpump...tensioner...and check the cam seal/balanceshaft seal/front main seal.

                    and while you're at it...

                    replace the alternator and power steering belts.

                    that way you have new belts all around. ( timing..balance shaft .power steering and alternator/AC )

                    but yeah...

                    change all those I have stated!

                    * timing belt
                    * balanceshaft belt.
                    * tensioners
                    * Waterpump

                    CHECK..

                    * Cam seal
                    * Balance shaft seals
                    * Front main seal

                    ^ those seals...when blown..will leak/splash oil onto the timing and balanceshaft belt. causing premature breakdown on the rubber belts.

                    keep us posted.

                    if you ever have to replace the clutch....check the rear main seal....distributor O ring and REAR balance shaft ends.
