    Tcu Help!

Alright so i pulled my TCU out and sure enough i have a blown resistor in it so now leads on to my next set of questions..
    1. Do i have to get the exact same TCU? or does any car matter?? like LX DX and EX ones?? also the year 90-91 and 92-93??

    2. can i disconnect it completely and will the transmission still shift like manually between the gears or does the TCU send the signals to make it shift period??

    Help me out guys thanks..

EDIT: alright the resistor that is burnt out is R41 slot and also one of the big like red looking ones has bubbles on the side of it, that one is in slot CM2

    ok here is my numbers..
    28100-PXO-731-M1
    3EX Lot. no.
    2522U

Now both of the ones i have found on ebay say
    28100-PXO-721-M1
    3LX
and well lot number obviously is different..
So guys need some help to know which one i can use guys.. Both "SAY" they are for a 92-93 but you know how that goes.. So can i use one for an LX or does it HAVE to be an EX one? and does the 721 matter since mine says 731 or is that just meaning for the EX and LX models?? somebody help please..
    Thanks

I had TCU problems a couple of years ago.....two blown resistors in one corner. I went to the junk yard and returned with 3 TCUs.....only one number matched mine. I checked them all out and found they would all work. One of them shifted really hard.....the other two shifted differently fom my old one but it had problems anyway. Good news was that they all worked! Total cost was 20 bucks as the yard operator had no idea if they were good or not. A trip to the yard is not as convenient as ebay....but you can usually get more for the money and pick up solenoids and other needed parts. As the owner of a CB7 auto trans you would do well to keep a spare TCU and shift solenoids and a VSS around.

Alright thats cool to know and well we only have one salvage yard here and they don't have a damn thing lol so i kinda have to get on Ebay, i wish i was back home because i could do the same thing that you did but not here.. kinda sucks.. Well since they all work then i go ahead and get the year specific ones obviously cuz the 90-91 have sport and mine doesn't but thanks for the info.. If anybody else has something to add to this please by all means help me out

would it benefit anything by going through the TCU w/ a soldering iron and resoldering any cracked points? like the main relay DIY?

Or is it not related to that at all?
