    Power loss at 2500rpm

My car has been off the road for a few months. Idles fine, drove fine for about 15 minutes... then the power died off at 2500rpm. It felt like a fuel cut, softly bucking and misfiring. It never stalled out, and it pulled strong under 2500. I drove home in 5th at 35mph.

When I got home, I popped the hood. Sparkplug wires are alright (1 and 3 have damaged threads, and have caused problems before... not doing it tonight)

I turned the car off, and then tried to restart. I got a click, and all went dead. This happens often, and is fixed by messing with the battery cables (they aren't conducting as they should... going to grease them tomorrow). The negative cable seems to be the main culprit.

Now, loose/dirty cables have caused the car to cut off while running in the past. Could this possibly be my problem? I haven't driven it since I got it home, so I don't know if my tinkering fixed anything.

Any other suggestions on what could cause this problem? It's been sitting, and was running perfectly fine before I pulled it off the road in January.

For those that don't know my setup, it's a 94 JDM H22A. It's also currently overfilled and way overdue for an oil change... Doing that first thing once I get it inspected!

The negative cable is known to get corroded and cause the "click/hardstarting" problem on Cb's. Change it out. Or fab up a new one yourself.

Can you get a pic of the plugs?
Also did any dash lights come on when the problem occured?

Ignition switch.....Mike..you know this all too well.

check that Negative battery cable...is it corroded?

          CHANGE IT...

but Id look into getting a new ignition switch AND cap/rotor ..

but theres another thing tickling my mind.

Fuel filter ( when was the last time you changed it? )

but like EVIL DEMON said and what I would suggest FIRST. ( negative battery cable )

do the simple things first Mike!

          keep us posted!

I had that exact same problem deev. It was my battery cable terminals. They could not get tight enough around the battery posts. So once in a while I'd get no start and stalling. I ended making new cables and using these terminals.

Also, I dont know about H22s, but on my A6 the green alt plugs came loose and caused all kinds of shit. I couldn't rev, bucking like crazy, backfiring, etc

I put some conductive grease on the terminals, and cleaned them off... same crap is happening. I'll have to check the alternator plug... that's a new one to me.

I'm going to pull the spark plugs tomorrow, though I'm nervous to do so. 1 and 3 have damaged threads, and they're currently in there pretty good... I'm afraid I won't get them in tightly again!

I put fresh gas in it yesterday. I don't know if the old gas (only 3 months old) mixed in with it could be causing a problem. I've NEVER changed the fuel filter (I have one... just haven't put it on) so that may be it.

Tomorrow: check cap and rotor, replace plugs, sand cables and terminals, get the car inspected because my GTP has a major oil leak and the CB7 is once again my reliable car!

i've heard of old gas causing gunk that clogs up fuel lines but i'm not sure how long it takes.

It's bone stock, so yeah, the EGR valve should still be there.

Maybe I'll try some injector cleaner as well. I know it's not great stuff, but hey... worth a shot!

might as well try the seafoam treatment if you're gonna do that.
