    Which mode saves more gas?

I know that sport mode wastes more gas. But which one saves more gas if...
    1. You are in sport mode and take the car up to 4000 RPM and the car shifts
    2. You are not in sport mode, but you step on the pedal hard enough to reach 4000 RPM to shift.

or are they both the same?

Sport mode extends the shift point deliberately. Having it off, the engine will try to shift as soon as possible without putting you too low in the next gear. Having sport mode on the engine may, depending on throttle position, change the gear a little later.

Your question assumes both cars will go to 4k regardless.

Now, having the throttle open wider creates less pumping loss, however it always uses more gas because it's using more air too.

With sport mode on, the engine will go a little higher in the rev range even under a light throttle, so a higher rev means more gas spent. But opening the throttle more to also achieve that 4k rev means more wasted gas.

It is better to shift sooner and use less throttle, both situations are a waste, however to answer your question directly, I believe given the situation you described having sport mode on would use less gas.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.
