Car is making a BOV noise.

I recently swapped my LX single port muffler for a SE dual port, installed a cone filter and a 421 header. Sitting still, when I rev the engine and let off the throttle, I hear a distinct "pfsssshhhh" I had my mechanic buddy listen and he doesn't know what it is and I can't think of anything that would do this. It sounds like a BOV. I'm not worried about it, but WTF is causing it? Any ideas? Oh, it did it before the header, but after the cone and muffler swap, but it's more pronounced now that the header is on the car.

    Thanks!

It's a normal sound when you change the intake. Mine did that too at first and I thought it sounded good, now that I have a bov it really doesnt sound the same as when I had a SRI, there is a pretty big difference. But I think what you are hearing is just more air sucking through the intake

I'm used to the air sucking sound, I've been opening up intakes for years. This happens after I let off the throttle. I'll try to get a video for the sound if it will pick it up.

Sorry, I'm not hearing it there like on mine. I can hear a short "pffsht" on the video as the throttle is being opened (which I get on mine also), but I don't hear the noise I'm getting after the throttle closes. I'll see if I can get a video after work.

If I could type it out, it sounds lie this: pfft wooooooommmmp pssshhhtt.

I just figured because he posted his vid of a normal sounding intake that I'd psot mine...

If your car isn't acting up and it's working OK I'd just leave it the way it is. A vid would help though.

Okay here's the video. It's most noticeable starting around 20 seconds. Watch the finger, when I lift off the throttle there is a sound like pressure being released that is not the same as the intake sound when I press the throttle. And don't let my miniature model distract you I don't know how well it comes across. It was definitely easier to hear it in RL, but I could still hear it in the video. Oh well, it's not hurting anything, it'll just be one of those mysteries.

                Sounds nice, though, doesn't it?

Sounds normal in that vid. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Sounds nice.

And it's obvious that you like it.

Thanks. I'm not going to sweat it, it's just driving me crazy not knowing what is doing it. I don't want people thinking I put one of those fake ass BOV noise makers on it to sound cool. I haven't paid attention to it under load, and it's more noticable in the cabin than next to the car, so unless someone asks me about it, I'll ignore it until I get used to it.

And I do like the sound of my baby. I can't wait to get a new muffler. The SE muffler I put on it is much more restrictive than the rusting out LX one it replaced. (I must have had just enough rust holes to make good power) I like the looks and theory of a twin loop, but I also like the thought of a free flowing oem style muffler with maybe a 2 or 2.5 outlet. Just big enough to flow nice without sounding like a fart can. Although there is an integra GS that was abandoned in my apartment complex with a Mozart fart can on it. It's just barely on there, I wiggle it with my foot every morning when I walk past it on my trash route hoping it will fall off before we tow the car away. (picking up the grounds is part of my job). I'll throw a free fart can on the cb7, I don't want to buy one and then hate the way it sounds though.

thats normal man, my intake does the same thing, and pretty much every other intake i've heard does it too, nothing to worry about.

Sounds fine to me... but seeing its after you close the throttle see if your headers and exhaust are on securely... maybe theres a leak?

Okay, today I was showing the new parts to my brother-in-law. I shut the car down while he was still looking under the hood, and he said that when I shut the car down there was a noise exactly like the one I'm talking about from the short ram. He said it went "pffft" like it was releasing a little air pressure. So now I know where it is, just not why.

again my car also did that with an intake

I think your worries are unfounded, becuase it sounds just like what happens to everyone else with an intake

Normal stuff you just didn't hear with the stock setup.
