What is this below the oil filter?

My car drinks its oil capacity about every 500 miles, and I've found this hole about an inch and a half below the oil filter that has nothing at all in it. A mechanic who hosed it down with brake cleaner says that the motor stalled if he hit that spot, so apparently it's getting vacuum...?

I found this picture in someone else's thread, and I can't tell if that's just a plug or a sensor of some sort, but there's absolutely nothing there on my car and a ton of oil is leaking through it. To be clear, this isn't the oil pressure sensor, which is right above the filter. I have one of those, it works.

    Isnt that the knock sensor?

That is a knock sensor. If you have the stock motor there should not be a sensor there, just a plug.

        Awesome.
Happen to know the bolt size / thread pitch? I'm guessing I can't just cork it with rubber since it's pressurized.

You sure its not coming from your oil filter? Knock sensors usually dont go in the engine. They are not pressurized unit. Its a piezo electric crystal whatever that transmits vibration into electricity.

I just replaced the oil filter (twice), and there were no left over gaskets, so that's not the problem. I read several threads about the thing it screws onto coming loose, and that may well be going on, but since there's a plainly empty opening in the block I thought I'd check that first. If oil is still dripping onto the downpipe the oil-filter-mount-whatsits is next in line.

That's awesome if it isn't pressurized though, I might not have to track down a really old, obscure part.

Which motor is this? If its an f22a then its an oil pressure switch since they DO NOT have knock sensors.

Stock F22A4, and the oil pressure thing above the filter works fine.
Or is the oil pressure switch something different?

Yeah. That would make more sense than a Knock sensor leaking oil.
                    wat?

The oil is probably leaking from your oil filter housing. There's an O-ring that's like .50 cents that sometimes crack behind the filter housing. You may wanna check that out.

Isn't that suppose to be like a coolant drain? and the pressure sensor is above the filter correct?
                            wat?
