    Coolant leak and steam

I was driving with my friend the other night and we were running my car hard on a straight away. We hit 95mph and i let off. We drive a few miles after that and we start to see steam coming from under my hood. I pulled over and looked under the hood and saw coolant gushing out from the bottom of the engine (couldn't see where though). I also left a trail of coolant from the stoplight to where i pulled over. As the coolant is leaving the leak it is hitting the downpipe of the header and causing lots of steam to come up through the hood. I've driven the car a few times since then and it only leaks badly when i drive the car harder than i normally do. i couldn't find any leaks when i had time to look at it and drove it up and down the block but no leaks unless i drive it for more than 10 miles and it seems to leak more when i shut the car off. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I searched the forum and found nothing that sounded like my same problem.

First thing I thought was head gasket, but probably not. 95 isn't that fast, lol.

I'd say jack it up and look. There are a bunch of hoses under there that might have a small pinhole leak that really sprays when you increase engine speed (increasing water pump speed, increasing pressure to the point defined by your radiator cap). It might also be coming from above the manifold. I think the key is to have the engine above idle when you check, though.

    Good luck.

Well it has gotten bigger over the past couple of days and i have been over heating lately. could it be a blown headgasket?. it seems to be gushing out and hitting everything that is hot.

First, like Losiracer2 said, don't drive on it! Especially if it is overheating, because every time it overheats you are risking warping the head, which would mean you might be looking for a new head.

You say it's gushing, so you must be able to see where it is gushing from. I can't really say what it is until you look for the source. Pictures always help.

check those drain plugs ( block plugs too )...check your heatercore hoses.

which side is this leak on?

double check for cracks in BOTH the head and block.

but like I said...check your COOLANT DRAIN PLUGS! all of them!
