Might be it I just know that its lower temp than the hot tank.

Screw heaters start a fire and rotisserie (sp?) it with the engine stand lol. Thats a hazard waiting to happen lol.

we use a jet washer with high rpessure and hot yet aluminum safe solution. i only set the thermostat to 140 degrees so it wont melt anything.

personally, i would tear down the motor. an engine gasket set and inspect the bearings. if they are cherry, clean them off and re-install them so you dont disturb the clearances.

          seal everything back up again,

take the oil cap out, and pour gas in it

like a few gallons, while turning the motor

haha, jdm motors can be little devils. If you were only going to own an engine for like 40k miles why bother changing the oil so often? I honestly think alot of those motors go through quite the test of reliability.

I would say seafoam the SHIT outta it, like instead of the 1/3 in the oil crankcase, put the entire bottle in there and let it work all that crap free. I think it may work. But that engine was "guaranteed to start" or whatever right? If it doesn't start on its own at first, then yeah, you'd have to clean as much of that off as possible and then pour the Seafoam in.

i was going to come in here and say pour a few bottles of seafoam down in there too but it seems like a lot of people beat me to it already.

Thats rather disturbing seeing how much sludge is in that thing.

Personally, I like the brake clean idea, just spray cans of that stuff in there. As you get it clean, shoot everything with WD-40 before moving on to another section.

You might get a 5 gallon can of solvent and plug all the external oil passages and then just fill the motor up (so it completely fills the pan, and the oil passages from the head to the block), let it sit covered over night, and then drain it out in the morning. That would give the solvent time to eat away at all that crud. You could do that a couple of nights in a row if it worked. You'd have to clean the solvent out, and then put some oil through it a bunch of times though.

I think you might be looking at a rebuild. This is one of those deals where its better to safe than sorry. The motor is already out, and suspect so why not?

Use the Helms to check the oil pump for proper function, if fine, flush it out. I'd clean out the oil pickup as well, remove the main girdle and clean out the passages in there as well.

On the head, you know the H22 well, so clean out all oil ports, flush them out. Degrease the head and remove all sludge and lubricate needed parts as you said. If it were my engine I'd install new seals all-around, timing belt, water pump. If you can verify your VTEC solenoid works before install, if it needs cleaning, do that (not really familiar with this component, but I know VTEC system is hydraulic).

Also, do a quick check on the valve job on the head, pour solvent into intake ports while facing them up at 12 oclock and wait, see if they hold the fluid, if not, you will see which valve leaks. Same with exhaust side. If you find leak(s), get a valve job. I say this cuz sometimes some engines will have valve buildup or run hot on exhaust valves and burn them. Check valve seal condition as well if there is buildup on any of valves.

                                Check cam journal condition.

If you find block oil passages clogged up, I'd be weary of engine bearings obviously. At that point you in different ball game.
