Mileage going down....do these things work to help ?

    Hey Guys,
i was looking over on ebay, and saw these "gas saving modules"
which i know are chips that go into your ECU. Do these things even work ?
also im thinking about getting a air intake....will that help in mileage ?
i get like 320-340 when the light turns on i think, and ive taken it the max 376 i think. I have my lower tube seals screwed, aka oil getting into plugs. Im also thinking about putting engine restore in, as i have heard it really does work. My friend has a B16 civic, in where he unplugged the o2 sensor, and apparently is getting more gas mileage....do any of these things work ?
    Thanks

      Saad, Saad, Saad.

Don't get a gas saving chip on ebay, an intake might help.
Most definitely do not unplug your O2 sensor. Your friend must be smoking something.

340 miles when the light comes on means you are probably putting in around 14 gallons of gas. This puts you at about 24.5 mpg, which is fairly normal for your automatic, and I know you are doing a good deal of city driving.

I just went 438 miles when the light came on Sunday when I went to Atlanta. I put in 14 gallons, that is about 31 mpg for that tank.
Most times I average 27 mpg.

Best way to get maximum gas mileage out of your car is to keep everything stock and well maintained. Make sure your air filter is clean, fuel filter has been changed in last 30,000miles, plugs and wires are good brand and good condition, oil changed frequently, tires properly inflated, 02 sensor is good, etc.
The car is already designed to get good gas mileage for what it is.
There are no chips that will improve your gas mileage. When you attempt to fool the ECU with a "chip"; it will adjust with Long Term Adapt and make your engine run like it did before you installed the "chip".
Also make sure you don't always drive with AC on and don't have any junk in the car that you don't need.
Some other things you can do to effectively increase your gas mileage: manual transaxle swap, smaller displacement engine swap(for example F20A), and weight reduction. lol

I always use stock NGK plugs. Not Iridium.

I've heard the v-power plugs and ngk wires were best for mpg. I've also heard that HOT air is better for mpg, haven't experimented with that one. As far as the O2 sensor goes, I've heard of wraping it with aluminum foil so it runs hotter as to trick it into a leaner signal, again I haven't tried it but sounds easy enough to do. Check a web-site called SmartGas for a bunch more tips.

how are you getting like 420+ miles to the tank...
the mileage difference between a MT and AT is at the most 1-2 mpg difference.
there has to be some other trick.

Highway driving is the trick. You're mileage is actually fairly average though.

Like others have said, just do a basic tune-up.

I get about 300 to a tank w/ a roof rack + bike on top, so i think you're doing pretty good. just maintain your car regularly. And DON'T buy that chip, please, thats just a scam. And as for the Iridium plugs, i don't really see any difference switching to them other than they won't have to be changed for a LONG time, since they're made to last. I still get about 31-32 hwy, but city, about 22.

                        1. Tune up the car.
                        2. Make sure tire pressures are proper.
                        3. Alignment is a big issue.
                        4. Watch how you drive. City/Highway differs.
                        5. Make sure all sensors are functioning right.
                        6. Dont even attempt to unplug your sensor or buy thoe "gas saving" modules. FYI tornadoes dont work. When they shatter they go in your engine its cool stuff.

I didn't note any MPG change from the V-Powers to the iridium IXs (both stock spec, v-powers were 25k miles old). Well, nothing I could measure.
