On my friends car his exhaust pipe rusted off at the cat. He went to meineke and they said they would have to fab a new system. I dont understand why they cant just weld a new pipe onto the flange. Heres a pic

You can't weld rust. At the very least he needs a new cat and a the mid-pipe needs to be cut back to a non-rusty area. Chances are if that area rusted through the rest of it is ready to go as well. -
is he tring to sneek up on people and spook them?
is the rest of his exhaust in good shape? maybe they were reccomending that it be replaced because the rest of the exhaust is in so so shape?~~~~~~~
