Automatic transmission removal :-\

Sooo I started my auto to five speed, i'm on the removal of the old tranny, i got the mounts, axles, bolts to torque converter and all the bolts haynes says to disconnect... at least I think, since pics are rather rare upon this swap I was curious am I missing anything?


I've tried prying the engine and tranny apart, and they should, leave a gap, but instead they fly right back together once i release

i don't think you got all your bolts loose... i think their may still be one hidden..

Yeah I am thinking that, but I dunno what one it could be, i'm sure someone else probably has done this.

i have removed and replaced my tranny.. and i'm just tellin ya, that i think you still have a hidden bolt up behind the intake area probly..

is the starter off?

I got the top 17mm bolts, and i couldn't see any more, including all the way down to where trans becomes flatter

I dunno i was looking for another one just couldn't find it for the life of me

How can he do that if he hasnt taken off the case??? As mentioned look for hidden bolts. The starter bolt got me good once and it confused me for a while until I took it off. But there is something holding it back in mots likely one bolt. Get a light and brake clean and clean around the case verifying you got every bolt. Usually if all bolts are off you should be able to wiggle the trans off.

There are 6 bolts total 4 you access from the engine compartment on the passenger side the other 2 you need to access from under the car they should be right next to where the driver side axle used to go into the trans. It shouldn't matter if the starter is out on an automatic since it bolts to the trans and not through it like the manual. Also make sure you got all 8 bolts that secure the torque converter/Flexplate to the engine. Other than the electical connections, VSS hoses, Trans cooler hoses, Shift linkage, and two brackets it should come out.

Got it all ricer, I checked, on the manual tranny i got all the bolts where the holes are, (Looking at manual tranny then checking if the bolt is off)

It must be slightly seized or something since i've checked over and over and over again. Hopefully thursday i'll have an update, i'll have more help

I would try a dead blow hammer that might break it loose.

NOt sure about auto's, but i know on manuals there are bolts on the rear mount holding it in.

Pull the converter cover off the bottom/side/wherever it is and unbolt the 8 TC bolts from the flexplate, usually makes removing an auto alot easier as otherwise the shaft has to slide perfectly out of the TC to remove it......a process easier done after the tranny is removed.

mate just double check everything and check where the nuts go on the new tranny.....
