Anyone that knows H22's and transmissions

ok i know the question about what manual trans will fit the H22 has been asked many times but i searched and havent been able to find out the difference in gear ratios between the h23 and h22 manual trans. i read that they r close to the same, does anyone know exactly? and if i get an h23 manual trans will it fall out of vtec every time? if this has been covered im sorry for the repost but i could not find it. thanks for ur help in advance.

There isnt really enough difference to matter. You need to recheck the stickies.

it really just depends on how you drive... if you want constant high end revs then the h22 tranny is good.. the h23 tranny will give you a slightly longer gear.. you wont have to shift as often.. maybe two or three seconds difference. it also depends on the amount of highway traveling you will be doing because damn.. that h22 tranny is really revved up when on the highway compared to the f22 tranny !

h23 actually has closer 5th than the jdm versions of the h22 trans. But yea the gearing is close. I would say close enough to where it doesnt matter. Texasvtak has driven my car as well as his. He has m2a4 I have the m2s4. So yea the only main diff I could see was the 5th gear rpm when cruising and just a slightly shorter gear.

The one that really makes a world of a difference is between 1st and 2nd. This shift point is even tougher with a lighter flywheel say..8.5lbs.

              ...adjust accordingly

no you do not drop out of vtec with the h23 tranny and h22a motor. That is my set up. But if you shift to early out of 1st then yes you will drop out. But every other gear you drop no further down then 6000.

Also another note. I heard there are 2 different p13's. Only difference is vtec engagement. One at 5000 and one at 5500. Mine is at 5000 so maybe if you have the other you may drop out of vtec in second gear.

+1. I noticed pretty much no difference other than 5th being shorter. Yours was easier to drive tho..stupid stock flywheel using whore.

There are a bunch of different P13s from my understanding. I was studying up on pgmfi just before it got knocked down (fuck hondata) so I could bring it all together here.

But I just noticed its back up! So sometime this week, Ill be posting up a nice big thread, so if anyone asks about p13s after that, I will slap them in the face with my pasty white penis.

                  I disagree.

Lighter flywheel = faster rpm drop.

question??? so since the h and f trannys are interchangable, because of the bell housing, are the gears and the internals also? first gear for most are 3.087, so lets "pretend" that i wanted to do change my fourth or 5th gear, could i yank the gear from another tranny and replace it with mine??? or it is pointless???

you could do that usually what people get is either the h23 or the h22 tranny and put the 5gear in from the f22 tranny, but doing that will affect all gears if i remember right.

No it wont. The Fs 5th is only a little longer than the Hs. The big difference is the final drive.
